THE COLLECTIONS 2024
For the Fashion Program, The Collections Fashion Show is the event of the year. It’s the moment when designers finally stop holding their breath, models strut out in unique garments made from blood, sweat, and tears, and everyone in the audience finally gets to see what we’ve been up to. Following the Jury of Selection, the fashion department is swamped with fashion show to-dos while buzzing with excitement about the upcoming event. Upon observing students and faculty in the department rush around like bees, you stop to wonder, “How do they get from sew to show?” Well, it all begins and ends with FAS 310, Fashion Presentation.
Fashion Presentation is a semester-long student-run class dedicated to planning and producing The Collections Fashion Show. Though guided by Monica McMurry who also serves as Creative Director, the class is divided into three committees led by two chair members. Publicity, Production, and Model Management.
Publicity oversees all marketing efforts from press releases and social media to posters and program coordination. This team works hard to release accurate and cohesive coverage with the show’s theme.
The stage design, lighting and sound, visuals, and lobby setup are all curated by the production team. This team works hard to craft an atmosphere that visually exemplifies and displays our theme and, the most important part, provides light.
What’s a fashion show without models to wear the garments? The model management committee is responsible for deciding the lineup, training models and choreography, as well as obtaining and communicating with models.
From January to April, these committees work behind the scenes as a team to put on The Collections Fashion Show–this year is no different and we hope to see you there and remember what went on behind the scenes.
